Top 10 Reasons KYC Verification Gets Rejected (and How to Fix Each)
Most KYC rejections come from a handful of avoidable mistakes. Here are the ten most common rejection reasons and the exact fix for each one.
A rejected verification is frustrating, but it is rarely final. Platforms reject for specific, fixable reasons — and the same ten issues account for the overwhelming majority of declines. Here they are, with the fix for each.
1. Blurry or low-resolution document photos
Automated readers fail on glare, shadows, and soft focus. Fix: photograph the document flat, in daylight, with all four edges visible. Our ID Card Clarity Review checks your scan before you submit.
2. Expired documents
Even a few days past expiry is an automatic rejection. Fix: check every expiry date in your pack. A Document Expiry Audit flags anything close to expiring.
3. Name mismatch
Your account name must match your ID exactly — including middle names and transliteration. Fix: align your account profile to the document, not the other way around.
4. Proof of address too old
Most platforms require a utility bill or bank statement issued within 90 days. Fix: see our guide on which proof-of-address documents get accepted, or use the Proof-of-Address Audit.
5. Cropped or edited images
Screenshots, scans with cut edges, or images with filters are treated as tampered. Fix: submit the original photo, unedited.
6. Selfie doesn't match the ID photo
Lighting, glasses, and angle cause liveness mismatches. Fix: our Biometric Selfie Coaching session shows you exactly how to pass the liveness step.
7. Unsupported document type
Some platforms reject certain national ID cards or temporary documents. Fix: check the platform's accepted-document list before submitting.
8. VPN or location mismatch
Signing up from an IP in a different country than your documents raises a flag. Fix: verify from your actual location with a stable connection.
9. Duplicate or previously flagged account
A second account with the same identity is usually rejected outright. Fix: recover the original account instead of creating a new one.
10. Inconsistent information across documents
Different addresses or name spellings across your ID, bill, and statement trigger manual review. Fix: make everything consistent before you apply.
Already rejected?
If your verification was already declined, don't resubmit blindly — each failed attempt makes the next one harder. Our Rejected-KYC Recovery service diagnoses the exact rejection reason and builds a corrective resubmission plan. Also read our step-by-step recovery plan.
