How to Pass Crypto Exchange KYC on the First Try
Crypto exchanges run some of the strictest identity checks online. Here's how to prepare your documents, selfie, and source-of-funds to pass first time.
Crypto exchanges face intense regulatory pressure, so their KYC is among the strictest you'll encounter. The good news: the requirements are well known, and most first-time failures come from the same avoidable issues covered in our top rejection reasons.
Tier 1: basic identity
The first tier usually needs your full legal name, date of birth, address, and a government ID. Enter your name exactly as printed on the document — including middle names. Photograph the ID flat, in daylight, with no glare. If your passport is your ID, make sure the machine-readable zone (the two lines of characters at the bottom) is fully legible; our Passport Photo Review checks this.
The liveness step
Exchanges use liveness detection to confirm a real person is present. Remove glasses and hats, face a window for even lighting, and hold still. Retakes are allowed, but repeated failures can push you into manual review. A short Selfie Liveness Review before you start saves the hassle.
Tier 2 and beyond: address and funds
Higher withdrawal limits require proof of address and, at the top tiers, source-of-funds documentation. Address documents must be recent (under 90 days) and match the address on your profile exactly. For funds, prepare bank statements or transaction records that tell a clear, consistent story.
If you're aiming for higher limits, our Exchange Tier-2 Upgrade Support and Exchange Tier-3 Upgrade Support services map out exactly what each tier requires.
Location matters
Verify from your real location, without a VPN. Exchanges compare your IP geolocation against your documents, and a mismatch is one of the fastest routes to rejection or a frozen account.
